Round 2 Vs Miak (tournament organiser) playing Orks

Sitrep (40k) The Dresden Manoeuvres part 1

Late May found the Panzer Waaagh engaged in the Dresden Manoeuvres tournament. Going into the event I had reservations about attending for a couple of reason. (1) it was a very small affair with just 12 players (in the end only eight actual showed-up). (2) the event was just two weeks after the Leipzig Ball which was another 40K event with a bigger field. (3) The Manoeuvres was the Hobby Halle's first ever event the rules reflected this and had some unique tournament conditions which upset regular tournament players, like the concept of a core force of a HQ with either 2 Troop units or 1 Troop and 1 elite units. As well as risky type missions. But all said and done it was an event in Dresden and these needed to be encouraged.

The Panzer Waagh had to be modified to meet the tournament requirements with one wagon dropped to add a large mob of boyz to bulk to up the core force which were not allowed transports.

WiP (40K): Tread bare tanks

I am a bit keen on Forge world. When they were doing their guard range I was a bit fanatical.  Since they have moved on to the Marine range my wallet gets a badly needed break.  My current go-to tournament list is a Wagon Waaagh which includes a Kill blasta battle tank which counts as a battlewagon. Unfortunately individual resin track links, while they look cool, fall apart quicker than my no spending pledges. After the fourth time gluing them back on I decided to strip them for something more robust for game play.

Sitrep (40K): Return to Retcon round 5

Round 5 Vs Floody (again)
Deployment: Pitched battle
Primary Objective: Kill points
Secondary Objective: Seize ground. One objective in the table centre and one objective 18” from either side.

Wagons ready to roll

The Battle:
Victory over the Guard put the boyz back on table one. For the third time in four events the orks were on table one for the last round. The Grey Knights were still there but they had taken a knock from another Ork Waaagh, so both sides needed a result.

The Orks got to go first and opted for the tactical genius that is a straight charge down the middle. Ghaz opt to stay with the wagons. The Knights responded by castling in one quadrant with some rifle men forming a refused flanks, looking for some side shots on the wagons.

Thunderwolf Vs Terminators

Turn one saw the flight of the Deff Koptas which scout turbo boosted into position. A hail of rockets and Buzz saw attacks followed resulting in one destroyed razorback and one immobilised. The wagons began the long drive to the Grey Knights deployment zone. The Knights countered with shooting down the Koptas, with one sole survivor opting for a tactical withdraw. Fire on the wagons destroyed one. A Ven dread was deployed from a Raven and assaulted a wagon but score any hits.

The wagons rolled forward. One tried to deff rolla a Ven Dread but had no effect. Then it dropped its boarding plank and the nob attacked, with even less effect. Ghaz, the Nobz and two wagons tried to hit a nearby Storm raven but could not land any blows.

Wraithguard attack

The Knights countered destroying the last of the fleeing Koptas. Saturated fire destroyed all the wagons. The wagons were all gone but the boyz were where they needed to be. Mega Nobz chased down a Strom Raven and destroyed it. The Mexican boyz opted to assault a Ven Dread to clear it from an objective. The Pirates boyz secured the middle objective. Ghaz joined the Wild boyz who opted to Waaagh to get into contact with two dreads. One of the dreads was destroyed with a klaw attack. Snikrot made an appearance and kommandoes destroyed two Razorbacks and pinned a henchman squad in combat.

The Vindicare and more henchmen had to de-bus and assault the Kommandos to clear them from the area. The Vindicare was wounded and another squad of henchmen was destroyed. Ghaz and friends chopped down the second dreadnought and pushed forward. The knights fired on the Pirates boyz. The nearest was killed this enabled a second Ven Dread to assault into contest range of an objective. Ghaz opted to fired on the wounded Vindicare in the open but predictably missed with everything.

Terminators Vs gaurd (guess who won?)

A Henchman squad claimed the third open objective. The knights blazed away at the wild boyz reducing them to two models. The wild boyz opted to hid behind some wrecks leaving Ghaz to go it alone. Which turned out to mean him failing to assault an immobilised razorback containing some cowering henchmen. The Mexicans boyz finally finished of the Ven Dreadnought to clear an objective. Unfortunately the Pirate boyz could not do the same.

The game ended with both sides were tied on kill points and each holding an objective with a Ven Dreadnought denying the Orks a second.

The Result: 10:10

Lamdraider targets TNI captain

The result put the Orks into fifth place. The Grey Knights did not get enough for the win with another Ork army claiming top spot. Not a bad weekend. But it would be nice to stop the rematches versus the same army or same player. The relatively low player numbers meant there were a lot of rematches.

Sitrep (40K): Return to Retcon round 4

Round 4 Vs Johnny playing Imperial Gaurd
Deployment: Spearhead
Primary Objective: Seize ground. Three objectives, one in the centre and one in the centre of each quarter in no mans land.
Secondary Objective: Capture and control.
The Enemy:
1 Command squad
2 Valkyries
5 Veterans squads in chimeras
1 Manticore
1 Bane wolf
1 Marbo
1 squadron of Hyrdas

Fire base 1

The Battle:
Johnny's list seemed still to be in development and a bit heavy on the Veterans side. The IG got to go first and deployed evenly in their quarter. The orks opted for the reserve game. The guard move to form two separate fire bases. One based on the manticore, the other based on the hydras. The veterans fanned out trying to deny Ghaz and the Kommandos a path on to the table but their numbers were too small and the run moves did not help. Even worse Marbo showed up at the wrong time and ended up hiding in the latrines.

Fire base 2

Ghaz predictably showed up at the weak spot in the guard coverage and destroyed a veteran squad, a bane wolf and immobilised a chimera. Two wagon mobs moved on and one tried to Waaagh into contact with hydras but was just out. The other secured the Ork base. Two Kopta mobs arrived one destroyed a Veteran squad while the other stunned a chimera, with Vets inside, guarding the IG base.

Kommandos do what they do best.
guide Ghaz to something tasty :)

With Koptas and Ghaz in close contact the IG tried to get a good fire solution in place. The Waaaghing mob was hammered by the manticore but not destroyed. The wagon mob guarding the Ork was attacked by a vendetta, which dropped off melta Vets, which destroyed the wagon but left the mob intact. While a kopta mob was taken out by Marbo and friends.

Lone Deff Kopta tries to destroy some Veterans protecting their objective

The Orks kept up the pressure. The Mega Nobz and last wagon mob rolled on. The now wagon-less mob destroyed the melta Vets and their ride. A Wagon rolled over the hydras destroying both. Ghaz and the Kommandos parted ways Ghaz went after the IG base while the Kommandos went after a nearby scoring unit.

Mexi-orks head North

The Guard continued to try to cripple the Ork mobility with another wagon was destroyed due to a vendetta strike. The Kommandos suffered the attention of the nearby command squad and took heavy casualties. The last guard scoring unit dis-embarked and tried to clear the Koptas that were attacking their chimera. The shooting was inconclusive but left the squad exposed to Ghaz and the koptas.

Pirate Orks go hunting Vendetta

The Mega Nobz dis-embarked to secure a another objective. Their wagon drove forward and collected the depleted wagon mob. Ghaz and the koptas finished of the Last guard scoring unit and their chimera as well. The Guard struggled to respond the last wagon was destroyed and Snikrot's mob was finished off but the boyz dig in deep into the objectives. The Vendetta went after Ghaz badly wounding him from long range.
In Response the Orks secured all the available objectives. On that the game ended.

The Result: 17:3

Sitrep (40K): Return to Retcon round 3

Round 3 Vs Floody playing Grey Knights
Deployment: Dawn of War
Primary Objective: Kill Points
Secondary Objective: Capture and Control
The Enemy:
Cortez
5 Henchman squads with razorbacks
1 large henchman squad
2 Storm ravens
3 riflemen dread
2 Venerable dreads
1 Vindicare

This is Grey Knight territory

The Battle:
Orks ain't fond of Grey Knights. Fortunately there were no purifiers present, actually there were no Grey Knights in the list at all. Which makes it interesting twist from the standard canned spam Cortez list. The Orks shooting consisting of six deff koptas may have been lightly outmatched but them is the breaks. The Grey Knight got to go first. The Razorbacks deployed in massaround the Knight's base with the exception of one which joined a rifleman and assassin opposite the Ork base. The remaining riflemen spread evenly across the deployment zone while the Ravens went in the middle waiting for targets. The Orks opted to reserve.

Turns one and two were quiet with the no Orks on the field and so no targets for the Knights. This changed when a single Deff Kopta mob and a token Wagon mob rolled into place. The Wagon secured the Ork base. while the Koptas went after the rifleman and lone Razorback threatening the Ork base. Rockets and Shootas only immobilised the Razorback. The Koptas then assaulted both units to pin the riflemen in combat and avoid a round of Knights shooting. Now with targets the Knights started to move, the two Ravens shuffled forward, aware that Snikrot with Ghaz still had not made an appearance. The Riflemen and the Vindicare put hits on the Wagon but could not cause any damage. Combat ineffective the riflemen failed to hit the koptas. The saw failed to hurt the immobilised razorback and then the koptas failed to break off.

Ghaz sets fire to a lone Rifleman

More Orks started to appear, two Wagons rolled on and took up positions near the Ork base. Ghaz and friends showed up in support of the Koptas. Another Kopta mob arrived and tried to take out the assassin with shooting but failed to have an effect. Ghaz and the Kommandoes assualted in and destroyed the rifleman. The Assassin was able to hold his own gets the kommandoes who then consolidated into him. The Razorback turned out to be Buzzsaw proof, surviving rockets and big shoota attacks as well with only weapons destroyed results.

The Grey Knights began to counter attack. The surving riflemen destroyed one kopta squadron and forced another to flee. A Storm Raven bussed Cortez, his death cultists and and venerable dreadnought into position to rescue the threatened assassin. The cultists attack was devastating with all the Kommandoes slain. Fortunately, the Dread failed to make contact. Ghaz was on his own. Cortez into consolidated into contact followed by the rest of the cultists.

Spot the assassin?

The fleeing kopta finally destroyed the immobilised, weaponless rhino, but predictable the crew took no damage and just hid behind the wreck. A Wagon broke formation and moved forward to debus a choppa mob. Cortez cast sanctuary to make their life difficult. In the end they attack the henchmen and tried to get the assassin which had one wound left. The assassin was out of range but the henchmen were quickly dealt with. Annoyingly Ghaz dropped before he land a good blow on Cortez leaving the Death Cultist free to go after the boyz.

The Knights continued with their counter. A Storm Raven destroyed the out of formation wagon. One rifleman finshed of the fleeing deffe kopta mob another destroyed a wagon from long range. Between the cultists and the Venerable Dread the choppa mob did not last long.  The last Kopta mob finally showed up and tried to sneak into contest the Grey Knight flag but alas the game rolled on and two Koptas vs the Razorback wall did not end well.

The Result: loss 16:4

Sitrep (40K); Return to Retcon round 2

Round 2 Vs Rowan playing Necrons
Deployment: Pitched battle
Primary Objective: Capture and control
Secondary Objective: Table quarters. Each table quarter counts as an objective
The Enemy:
2 Lords on Barges
1 Court
3 Necrons squads
2 Wraith Squads
2 Annihilation Barges
1 Ghost Ark

The Battle:
The Orks got to go first. The koptas deployed with the wagons opting for reserve while Snikrot and Ghaz who opted to out flank. The Necrons deployed everything except two squads of Necrons one of which had a crytek attached. Scouting saw the Deff Koptas turbo boost towards the Necron lines.

Turn one started with a hail of rockets and chainsaw attacks which resulted ion a lot of scratched paint. The wraiths replied destroying two of the deff koptas mobs with not loss. The rest of the necrons drifted forward.

Orc reserves began to arrive. Two wagons rolled towards the Necrons unguarded objective while the Nob's wagon set up shop on the Ork objective. Ghaz with Snitrot choose to wait his time. The Necron reserves arrived and the army pushed forward, with shooting having little effect.

The Big Mek dismounted from the Mega-nobz's wagon which in turn surged forward to de-bus the Mega-nobz. The Mega-nobz flames the Ghost Ark and Wraiths hiding behind before destroying the Arc in combat. The Wraith ignored the Nobz and pushed forwards with some |Necrons to threaten the Orks now abandoned objective. The other Wraith pack reinforced a squad of Necrons which moved to protect the Necrons objective. Shooting had little effect the Court tried to damage some wagons and failed while the Barges failed to hurt the rampaging Mega-nobz.

Orks secure the Necron objective

The Orks continued to pile on the pressure. The Mega-nobz smashed an Annihilation Barge that had drifted to close for comfort. Snikrot and Ghaz ambushed the Wraiths and Necrons moving towards Ork base. The Necrons were destroyed while the Wraith ssuffered badly due to fearless saves. Two wagons moves moved to threaten the Necrons home base.

Ghaz ambushes the Necron strike force

With assault on the Ork base stalled the Necrons started to move to protect their own base. A Necron squad with Crytpek tried to deepstrike on to their own objective but scattered of table and was destroyed. The Court and Barges tried to stop the Wagons but had no effect.

Wagon Mob goes after Wraiths

In response the Kommandoes finished of the Wraith threatening the Ork base and moved after a nearby Nercon lord on Barge which was the only Necrons left in the quarter. One of the wagons threatening the Necrons base broke formation and moved sidewise to drop of a Choppa mob who assaulted and destroyed the last Wraith and Necron warrior units in play. The last wagon parked near the Necron base.- The Necron retalited with their lords. The lord nearest the Ork objective tried to assault into contest range of the base but there were too many orks and he was locked in combat outside contest range. The last lord did a swipe attack on the Wagon claiming the Necron objective and destroyed it. He then de-bused to finish off the surviving choppa boyz. The Court and Last Annilation barge tried to finish the mega Nobz that was rampage through the Necron line but with little effect.

Off topic Black Templar demonstrate how not to roll terminator saves

With the Necrons in a bad way the Orks moved in for the Kill. Ghaz destroyed a command barge while the choppa mob guarding the Ork objective cut down the Lord. The Choppa mob contesting the Necron base cut down the challenging lord. The Mega-nobz, now down to Nob, opted to run into an empty table quarter to claim the quarter. On that the game ended.

The Result: Win 18.2

Sitrep (40K): Return to Retcon round 1

Retcon (UCD 40K tournament) being in Dublin near the Easter Bank holiday. Is a nice trip,  Plus I get to see the folks for more than a couple of hours befopre heading off into boonies of Cark or Galway. For the tournament the Battlewagon boyz rolled into action

Round 1 Vs Ryan playing Space Wolves
Deployment: Spearhead
Primary Objective: Seize ground with five objectives. One in the centre and one in the centre of each corner.
Secondary Objective: Kill points
The Enemy:
1 Rune Priest
1 Wolf guard pack
1 Scout pack
3 Long fang packs with las/plas razorbacks
3 large Grey Hunter packs in rhinos
2 small Grey Hunter packs

The Battle:
It had to start with wolves. Even worse Ryan list had evolved from Iztacon. Less Rune Priests and Scouts and more Grey Hunters. Last time the Orks out numbered the Wolves 4-5 to 1 and got a draw. This time the numbers were about even.

Wolves deploy

The Wolves got to go first and picked the biggest building on the battle field and set-up camp with the Long Fangs going for the high ground while the Grey Hunters secured the lower floors. One Long Fang packs opted to deploy in a rhino to set-up a cross fire on the table. A Grey Hunter pack went into reserve while the scouts opted to out flank. The Orks opted to roll on from reserve.

Grey Hunters on the move

Turn one saw the Wolves spread out seizing nearby objectives and setting up better positions. With no opposition on the table they did the same in turn two. Annoyingly, the scouts also failed to show up. The Orks arrival was preceded by two Deff Kopta squadrons that rolled on and attacked a small Grey Hunter wolf pack that was guarding an objective. The pack broke and barely escaped the Koptas. Two wagon mobs also arrived and secured the objective on the Ork table edge.

Wolf Scouts get on the flank of a Wagon

On queue the Wolf Scouts showed up and popped a Battle wagon. The fleeing wolf pack could not rally and none of the other packs could shake off the koptas that were dogging it. More orks arrived. The two wagon mobs went after the one wolf scout pack looking for pay back. Ghaz and friends assaulted and destroyed a rhino that had drifted to close to the Ork deployment area. The last kopta squadron showed up and assaulted a Long Fang pack. The Wagon mobs made short work of the scouts.

Battle wagon boys move after Wolf Scouts

The Grey Hunters from the rhino Ghaz had destroyed tried to destroyed his battle wagon but failed. A razor back got a side shot on another wagon and destroyed it. Long Fangs struggled to shake of the Deff Koptas but both stayed locked in combat. The last Grey Hunter pack rolled in from reserve and moved to rescue the Long Fangs. The Last Wagon mob arrived and Waaaghed to surround and destroyed the rhino with the Rune Priest and Grey Hunters inside, destroying them all. Ghaz engaged and destroyed the Grey Hunters that had gone after his transport.

Wild boyz swarm a Rhino pack
Ghaz and friends go Rhino bashing

The Mega Nobz fell back to secure an objective. Deff Koptas started to run amok taking rear shots at rhinos and razorbacks and generally being a pain in the ass. Snikrot, the kommandos and the wagon mob assaulted the newly arrived Grey Hunters and embattled Long Fangs and destroyed them both. A Razorback tried to tank shock and contest an Ork objective but the wagon mob destroyed it. The Game end with the orks holding or contesting 4 of the 5 of the objectives.

Sitrep (40k): Prague and back again (final) round 5

Round 5 Vs Orks played by Pavel
Deployment: Pitched Battle
Primary Objective: Annihilation
Secondary Objective: Capture and Control
The Enemy:
1 War Boss
1 Big mek
1 Nobz mob in battlewagon
1 battle wagon sized mob
3 Trukk sized mobs with Trucks
2 Kan mobz
1 Battlewagon

March of the Kans

The Battle:
Finally round was against Pavel's Orks for some green on green action. Pavel's list was pretty similar to his ETC list being mobile and fairly balanced. The kill point risk was solved in typical ork fashion ie kill all the opponents stuff.

Deff rolla

Pavel won the roll off and deployed his objective in the centre while the Big Green One deployed theirs in a corner. Pavel's boyz all went down en-mass in their centre while the Big Green One opted for all reserves. Turn one and two were quick for Pavel. Mhaz arrived in turn two accompanied by two battle wagon mobs and a deff kopta squadron. The Deff Kopta tried to destroy the battle wagon with the Big Mek who made cover saves the two penetrating from the Koptas (which was irritating). With targets in sight Pavel's mobs moved to engage the Big Green One. The Kans shot down both Koptas. Another wagon with Mega Nobz rolled on. Pavel's mobs were just outside Deff Rolla range. The MegaNobz dismounted to destroy Pavel's warboss' battle wagon. In response the Warboss and his nobz destroyed the Mega Nobz while their battlewagon was deff rolla'd to a wreck (which was also irritating). Mhaz mounted up and the two remaining wagons moved on the enemy objective. The Sneak Gits opted to sit this one out and hid in a corner.

Pavel's shoota mob blasted the now all alone Big Mek sitting in a pile of battle wagon scrap. The Trukks moved to capture the Big Green One's objective. Pavel's Kan walled to keep the Wagons away from his objective. A choppa mob dismounted and assaulted the Kans to clear the path but got bogged down in combat. Pavel's last wagon moved to block screen his objective with nineteen boyz behind it. The War Boss, his Nobz and the Big Mek assaulted the boyz trying to clear the kans out of the way. The Boyz and their wagon were destroyed with few loss. Mhaz and the second wagon then rolled in. The Nobz and Big Mek were run over (six hits, six wounds, six dead, awesome), a Kan mob was destroyed and Pavel's last wagon was immobilised. To make it worse the choppa mob dismounted to attack the Warboss. To soften him up they let rip with some Slugga shots and were pleasantly surprised when he killed over dead. Mhaz dropped the boarding plank and finished of the wagon.

Battle wagon lines up a home run

By the Big Green One's objective the Trukks mobs temporarily captured the objective, but the last wagon mob arrived and literally ran them over destroying two trukks and then the boyz in combat. A third trukk mob was committed but had to assault through cover and was destroyed in the process. For spite the last Trukk tankshocked on to the objective to contest it while the last Kan mob destroyed a battle wagon and pinned the defenders in combat away from the objective.

Trukk boyz try to capture an obj

The Result: 13-7

Conclusion:
When the dust had settled the Big Green One had taken best general prize. Best Overall was a tie with Thomas. We had a dice off to determine the winner and Thomas got a one and the boyz got a three. Better green then good.

1st place trophy

The event was worth the trip. A bonus was they have started to run a FOW event on the same weekend, which is very tempting. The difference between the two is interesting, terrain wise the FOW looks better but up close to the models the 40K are stronger.
I left Prague with two thoughts one was “don't do it” the second was “you know, with two more good results I could top the Czech ranking”. I don't know, who would want to top the rankings in two separate countries????

Sitrep (40k): Prague and back again round 4

Round 4 Vs Jiri (aka Gregory)
Deployment: Spearhead
Primary Objective: Seize Ground
Secondary Objective: Capture Control
The Enemy:
Thunder Lord
3 Big Grey Hunter packs
1 Wolf Scout pack
3 Long Fang packs
1 Wolf pack

The Battle:
Day two started with the boyz defending table one against the king of the Czech wolves, Gregory. Who, I later learned was also, the Czech no 1 player and ETC player. The Gregory doesn't need Rune Priests which was interesting, also was interesting was his use of a wolf pack. Usually the wolves have more Rune Priests and less Wolves. The set-up took way too long to figure out due a combination of lack of sleep and completely mixing up the deployment and mission objective sequence. The set-up started well for the boyz but after several re-rolls they got nothing. The Wolves got to go first and picked the side with the objectives densely packed while the Ork objectives were far more scattered and less coherent.

Wolves deploy

The Wolves deployed the Longs Fangs screened by the wolf pack. The Grey Hunters and Thunder Lord deployed up front. The Wolf Scouts opted to out flank. The Boyz opted to reserve. Turn one was a non event. Turn two saw the Wolf Scout fail to show up. Even worse two wagon mobs rolled on and well as Mhaz and the Sneaky Gits. Lacking targets Mhaz took out his frustration on a nearby Rhino while the Sneaky Gits hit the Wolf pack. The Wolf pack was mauled but survived while the Rhino was destroyed without pinning the Grey Hunter pack inside.

Mhaz's last charge

On que the Wolf Scouts showed up and popped a Battlewagon, killing more than half the boyz in the process. The Long Fangs started to target the second wagon with no effect. The Thunder Lord and Grey Hunter pack fell back to engage Mhaz and his mates. Close combat saw Mhaz and the Kommandos drop like flies with the lord and the Grey Hunter then consolidating back to the front.
The next wave of Boyz arrived, more wagons and a deff kopta squadron. The Meganobs dismounted to deal with the pesky scouts. The second wagon moved to secure two objectives. The third wagon moved closer to the Big Mek. The Mega nobs assaulted the Scouts and lost combat barely hanging in. Sensing blood the Wolves started to close. The Long Fangs popped the deff kopta squadron and started to rain down on the wagons. The Grey Hunters moved to secure three objectives and push towards a fourth in the Ork table half. The Scouts finished off the Nobz.
Things were getting a bit grim. The damaged mob went after the scouts and between them, and fire from two Battlewagons, wiped out the squad. Another mob dismounted to surround and destroy a rhino containing a Grey Hunter pack. But failed to damage the rhino.
The wolves kept up the pressure. The Thunder Lord and wolf pack tried to assaulted the damaged mob. The lord failed to make it but the wolves did. Fortunately they had to move through cover to get there and were cut down before they could strike. But it till left a badly damaged mob versus a Thunder Lord, with Grey Hunters not far behind. Elsewhere the Long Fangs continued to fire on the wagons while the two remaining Grey Hunter packs ravaged the boyz in the open.
One damaged mob mounted up and moved sidewise while the second damaged took up positions to defend an objective being pressed by the Thunder Lord and friends.

Last stand of the wild boyz

The defending mob did not last long against the Thunder Lord and the wolves secured fourth objective. Things were getting dark. The last deff kopta sqaudron finally showed up. It assaulted the Long Fangs hoping to pin them in combat but was destroyed. The Big Mek in his battle wagon made a break for it and tried to contest a wolf objective.
The Turn counter rolled on. The Grey Hunters made short work of the Big Mek while the Long Fangs destroyed his ride. The Grey Hunters on the other side of the table popped a battle wagon. While the Thunder lord walked over and destroyed the last wagon. With the boyz inside opting to dismount to keep control of the two objective.

Via Dakka

The Wolves had now four objectives versus the Ork's two. Running out time, options and models one of the last two Ork units remaining opted for one of desperate charge affairs. The Mob assaulted a wolf pack through cover. This contest one objective. The Pack in question was guarding two other objective (including the capture and control objective) and got pulled off them. The mob lost combat but managed to hang in there pulling the wolves further away from their objectives. On that the game ended. The Ork held two objectives vs the wolves one and won the secondary mission but lost a good bit on Vps.

The Result: 11-9

Sitrep (40K): Prague and back again, round 3

Round 3 Vs Renegade Guard played by Jan
Deployment: Dawn of War
Primary Objective: Annihilation
Secondary Objective: Seize Ground
The Enemy:
2 Company Command squads, both with Chimera
1 huge platoon, full strength, all the heavy weapons squads (and possibly a kitchen sink)
1 Leman Russ Battle Tank
1 Valkyrie
2 veteran squads, one with Chimera
1 Rough rider squad
1 Sentinel squadron

Renegade heavy weapons teams

The Battle:
Round three put the boyz on table one facing one of the nicest converted guard armies I had seen in a while. Renegade guards using bits from half a dozen plastic kits across a few manufactures. Pretty but not very threatening.

Renegade Sentinel

The guard won the roll off and opted to deploy first. Picking the table edge with three of the four objectives for the primary mission. The boyz opted to all reserve with the sneaky stuff doing what it does best. Turn one saw the guards perform a general advance. Which was repeated in turn two with heavy weapons squads trying to get into position on the flanks for side shots on the Wagons when they showed up.

Kommandos running amok

Deff koptas doing the same on the other side of the battlefeild

Three of the wagons arrived a split second before the koptas showed up. The koptas took out the weapons squad on the flanking threatening the wagons. Mhaz and the Sneaky Gits showed up on the opposite flank. Between them, they destroyed two Chimeras and all the Rough Riders. For salt in the wound the Company commander's squad was pinned. Under pressure from both side the guards tried to consolidate on one flank, abandoning the objectives to the approaching wagons.
The huge guard platoon assaulted Mhaz and the Sneaky Gits, destroying the Gits and putting a wound on the boss.

Wild boyz stampede the Guards forward element

The rest of the guard tried to put holes in the approaching wagons and succeeded in stunning ta battle wagon. The Valkyrie with vets and the second company commander chimera moved a bit to close to the Ork edge in a bid to get shots on the wagons and this left them exposed if the last wagon showed up. Which it duly did. The Valkyrie failed to dodge and was destroyed and the veterans pinned. The Boyz jumped out and beat the crap out of the chimera. Immobilising it and destroying its weapons. The guard continued hitting away at Mhaz hidden power weapons claiming a few more wounds. The rest of Guard continued to fall back from the wagon wall.

The Guard persistence paid off and Mhaz was killed by the guardsmen. However, it was a too little too late as the wagon wall rolled over all bar one of the objectives. The boyz disembarked long enough to destroy the sentinels that were lurking in a building hoping for the wagons to pass.  The game ended with the Orks completing most of the primary mission and all of the secondary mission.

Battle wagons start chasing after Chimera

The Result: 16-4

The three wins put the boyz in the lead, eight points clear of their rivals. One of the cool aspects of the Prague event is that the venue is a school hall and most of the players travel and stay there over night. Also nearby is a pretty decent steak restaurant. After steaks, it was back to the hall for some grudge matches. First up was Vaclav toting his Crowe purifier list. Orks do not like Purifiers at all but they were able to fight them to a draw. With Mhaz getting sucked into the warp after accepting a challenge from Crowe. Second in the fray was Vit's (Czech Etc team) guard with tactical advise (ie endless slagging) from the rest of the Czech ETC team. Third up was going to be Thomas(Czech ETC captain) but the boyz started to fade before we could start and we called it a day (getting old I guess). As day one ended I left blissfully unaware of two things. One, the clocks went forward that night (balls!!) and two, Wolves were on the prowl.
