The Spaniard, Santo Domingo 1790 (A sharp practice scenario)

The town of Banica
Introduction:
The Mayor if the Spanish town of Banica has been captured by the rebel and Vodou priest Dutty Boukman who is determined to sacrifice him to Bondye. The Mayor is a fountain of knowledge of the region and has made many friends over the years with the appropriate financial inducement.  French and British are keen to save the Mayor to ensure his continued support for their causes. Both sides have dispatched forces to ensure his safety.

Captured Mayor
Forces:
Remarkably, both the British and French have dispatched similar sized forces for the rescue consisting of.

1 Captain (lvl3 leader)
1 Sargent  (lvl1 leader)
24 Regular infantry (3 groups of 8 men)
1 Lieutenant  (lvl2 leader)
1 Caporal  (lvl1 leader)
12 Light infantry (2 groups of 6 men)
1 Bosun (lvl1 leader)
12 Sailors (1 groups of 12 men)

Boukman’s defenders consist of
Dutty Boukman  (lvl2 leader)
Cécile Fatiman (lvl1 leader)
Oge  (lvl1 leader)
36 Maroons (3 groups of 12 men)

Set-up:
The battlefield consists of semi cultivated jungle with the town of Banica at the centre. The British enter from one narrow edge table corner furthest from the town (point A). The French enter from the opposite narrow edge table corner furthest from the town (point B).  The defenders set-up in the town with the Mayor in main building (point C).

Victory conditions:
The British win if they rescue the Mayor and get him of their table edge. The French win if they rescue the Mayor and get him of their table edge. To rescue to Mayor and unit needs to make contact with him and and have no enemy units in contact.

Post game notes:
We played this once at the club with Richard taking command of the British and Vincent taking control if the French. While I controlled the defenders and kept the gaming flowing. I adjusted the sharp practice rules a little to allow for a three way game instead of the normal red Vs blue style game.  The game went well. Initially the British and French bogged down fighting each other on the outskirts of the town.  But the British broke the impasse by trying to flank the town while the French responded by storming the town directly. Several assaults were repelled by the defenders and the French were pushed back. The British followed up by multiple assaults on the defenders eventually securing the mayor and beating a hasty retreat pursed by the now larger force of French. All in all it was a fun days gaming.
