The start of a Saga |
Just some work in progress shots of my Welsh Saga warband. The models come from Gripping Beast 4 point Welsh Warband. The sculpts are a bit stiff but they have a certain charm. The paint is vallejo. It is a bit of a change in painting style to go from 15mm W2 regular infantry to 28mm Dark Age irregulars. I had also forgotten the joys of spear pricks while handling "primitive models". The band is nearing finish with some touch-ups and transfers required.
These guys jumped to the top of the painting queue are reading Bernard Cromwell's
Saxon Stories.

warlord in the making( In hindsight I would have liked to have added a second model to the base with his banner) |

It is interesting painting these guys and the models have had more than one painitng seesion. Genberally trying to nail the look of the warband. I see the levy and the warrior having varies shades of brown colors while the henchmen having a bit more color and then finally the warlord is the bright of the band |

Plain Brown levy |

The henchmen need a bit more work. Mainly reaplcing the red clothes with something a bit more muted |

White sheilds awaiting transfers |
That is all for now, thanks for stopping by

They look good mate, I play saga a couple of times with Greg & it's a fun little game.
Looking great! I followed a similar scheme with my Normans, figuring the wealthier troops could afford the fancier, brighter clothes. The Welsh are a real handful to face in SAGA. Their abilities to affect the enemies movement and mess with his plans are not to be underestimated!
